Artist Spotlight: An Interview with Sarah Ujmaia
I first fell in love with Sarah’s work after seeing one of her pieces in an exhibition in Melbourne last year. Her dedication to detail and amazing sense of movement displayed in her work completely draws you in. Her incredible talent for life-size drawings, is also something which is simply captivating. And plus, she’s only 19… I know right.

Words can be soo disappointing when I’m trying to express something to someone. I feel like I can never really articulate the true level of my emotions through words or the spoken language. I always feel like I’m either belittling how I feel or overdoing it and expressing more than what is inside me. It’s never a true reflection of what I want to communicate. How can u even summate using sentences the shit u feel inside. This all probably makes no sense. The best example is when someone says something really nice to me about my art.. like how am I even supposed to respond?? I wish I could cry as a response to so many things but then again that would probably make the other person feel pretty unsure as to how to deal with me. So I settle for a ~thankyou~ or something along the lines of that but then how can one word express to another person the gratitude I feel inside me for something they thought or said about something I did or made!! Even this very paragraph is a poorly expressed reflection of how I feel about all these things. I don’t know where this was all going but I’m just laying here thinking about that stuff. I’m truly very grateful for this life

Artists are people driven by the tension between the desire to communicate and the desire to hide.
